Obituary

Lois Mestaz was born on October 19, 1937 in Ely, Nevada to Florencio and Refugio Martinez. Her family moved to Los Angeles, around 1945. She went to Belmont High School and there she met the love of her life, Tom Mestaz. They married and had four children - three daughters and one son.

Lois went to East Los Angeles College and graduated with honors. She became an undergraduate at Cal State L.A. She worked as an executive secretary at the Broadway. And later worked for several years as a school secretary for the Alhambra school district.

Lois volunteered her time at USC hospital as an interpreter for patients in the labor and delivery department. She also worked on the campaign for Gov. Jerry Brown, the first time he ran for Governor of California. She also was a Lector for several years at St. Thomas More Church and believed that the Holy Word should be read with much reverence.

Lois enjoyed music, dancing, singing, gardening, sewing (and casinos!). She loved reading great literature. She also loved her sisters dearly and had lots of fun with them. She enjoyed spending time with her family and she always made the holidays very special.

Lois is survived by her sister, four children, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandson. She will be dearly missed!

A Rosary and Mass will be held at 10:00 am. on Tuesday Sept. 6, 2022 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church followed by interment at Rose Hills Memorial Park.
