Stuart Mathew Wiltzen

January 20, 1956 - August 02, 2022

Stuart Mathew Wiltzen, beloved father, brother, uncle, godfather, community member, and friend to many, passed away on August, 2, 2022, in Whittier, California.

Stuart was born January 20th, the year 1956, in Scobey Montana, to parents Estelle and Harris Wiltzen. In the late70's, he moved from his hometown of Plains, Montana, to Los Angeles, California, to be with his sister Barbara, and study at UCLA. In that time, he met Esther Calleros, leading to marriage, and four children, of which he would dedicate the rest of his life to. He was very proud of, and loved his children with all his heart, and treasured every moment he spent with them.

He was an incredibly smart and imaginative man. He loved the simple things, such as going to the beach, swimming, and scuba diving. He found great satisfaction in riding his bike just about everywhere. He had an uncompromising love of comics, and the wondrous, imaginative stories they told, a fact easy to recognize by the Superman branded sweatshirt he wore almost all of the time, and the impressive collection of comics and action figures that reflected that passion. He was a very devout man, being a regular member of the St. Mary's of the Assumption Church. And he always had a love of science in his heart, combined with an imagination that gave him an appreciation of the world he lived in. He never stopped studying physics, even in his spare time, and he enjoyed the challenge, finding entertainment in studying the movements of super heroes, or carefully evaluating the technical designs and impossible math involved in the futuristic, sci-fi fantasy he would read. He was happy to have lived at the dawning of a golden age of movies of super heroes and space exploration. Stuart greatly enjoyed these movies, and shared these movies with friends and family alike, seeing them as a way to connect and show the people he cared about, the dreams and ideals he cherished the most.
Stuart was a kind caring man, generous with his time, and always wanting to do everything he could to help, showing up with an eager smile and a lighthearted, comforting joke. Stuart's home was in Whittier, California, but he kept close contact with his family in Plains, Montana, often visiting their family's land to spend time with family, taking long hikes, rafting on Clark Fork River, or attending the many birthdays, weddings, and family reunions hosted there. Stuart's happiness came from his relationship with all of his family; in Los Angeles, Montana, Washington, North Dakota, Alaska, Idaho, and the East Coast. He is survived by his sons Keane and Karse, his daughter Kyran; his brother Stephan and his wife Nona; his nephews, Uncas and Joseph; his brother John and his wife Anna their kids Bob and Emily; his brother Ed and his wife Wendy and their children Kjerstie, Kelsey, and Kendall; his sister Jennifer and her husband Dan and their children Rachel, Garret, and Stephani; his brother-in-law Curt Alexander and niece Grace. He had 8 great nieces and nephews. Stuart was greatly loved by all of his family, and he will truly be missed.

Stuart was preceded in death by his son Kyle Wiltzen, parents Estelle and Harris Wiltzen, sister, Barbara Van Arsdell, brother-in-law, Paul Van Arsdell, and his nephew David Kier.
