Gloria Louise DeMent
August 27, 1938 - July 10, 2022
Her heart and hands were used for helping. Her encouraging spirit touched us all. She was the dear wife of Chuck, wonderful mother to Chris, and the best grandmother there could be to Krista, Christopher, Charles, Andrew, Joshua and James. She was blessed with many great-grandchildren...grateful and full of love and pride for each one. She was also the caring and irreplaceable sister of Cammy and Mary Rose. She was aunt to Tara and Joey...full of fun and good times. Wayne DeMent and family were dear.
Gloria was born in Denver to Louise and Wayman Tucker. There she spent much time bonding with her wonderful grandparents on both her mother's and her father's side. They moved to Keyes CA in 1946. Her father's parents had moved there first, which was a good situation because she and her little sister could run back and forth to their house at will.
Her mother opened a little grocery store. She began helping in the store when she was only eight years old. She made lots of friends and loved school and did extremely well. Summers were hot and she and her friends would go swimming or they might pile into a neighbor's car and go to a drive-in movie, often sitting on the car fender enjoying the cool of the evening. She adored Ceres High school. She made such special friends there, especially Shirlene. They kept in touch throughout her lifetime.
After graduation, she got a job in a pharmaceutical company in Los Angeles. She quickly advanced to the position of Vice President's secretary. She made another life-long friend there, Eileen.
She married Chuck DeMent in 1960. They were just right for each other. They were so happy and focused on their bright future ahead.
Gloria and Chuck built DeMent Appliances from the ground up...which they ran for many years. Their young son Chris would follow in their footsteps and build his own thriving business years later. They were so very proud of him, his work ethic, his talent as a musician and they loved his great sense of humor. He was so loved and adored.
She loved being a grandma. How dear each and every one! Having six little ones kept her heart full and grateful. She always helped with them in any way possible.
She loved going to church and often said, "I really liked Pastor's message today." She derived great satisfaction from the many years she and Chuck were involved in a food giveaway program...such an important generous ministry in itself. She held deep affection for several of Chuck's cousins who were so special and inspiring to her through their church ministries.
In the early nineties, she brought her beloved (beloved by all) grandmother, Cecile to live with her. Cecile was advanced in years, and Gloria provided everything possible to make her everyday life happy and comfortable.
In later years, when Chuck's vitality waned, special friends and neighbors played a significant part in helping her care for Chuck. After his passing she lived alone for the first time in her life. When she required help, Lucy, Marlowe, and Carmen and so many others were the most precious, helpful, wonderful, and thoughtful friends. She often said how very grateful she was to them.
When she realized that she herself needed more help, she went to AZ to live with her dear granddaughter, Krista and her beautiful family. They shared a special bond from the moment of her birth. She had the opportunity to see her beloved great-grandchildren on a regular basis and have sweet visits from members of her family. Krista provided everything humanly possible to make her grandma happy and comfortable. Such devotion is rare and wonderful.
Now that she is in heaven, and though we will always miss her, she is happy and sparkling in the Light of her Lord and Savior. We believe she is with Chuck and those so very dear who have crossed over. But she'll be aware and watch over all of us too...the ones who will always keep her close in their hearts!
May God Bless Gloria forever.
