Joan Therese Kubichka

September 28, 1929 — September 22, 2022

Joan Therese Kubichka, was born on September 28, 1929 in Queens, New York to Francis B. Condon and Emma A. Condon (nee Crinnion). She died on September 22, 2022 in Fullerton, California at the age of 92. Joan was baptized at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, Corona, New York and grew up in Queens Borough of New York City. She attended Saint Joseph's Catholic Elementary School in Long Island City, New York. She graduated eighth grade in June of 1943 from Saint Joseph's. In May of 1943 she was accepted into the Sodality of Our Blessed Lady in the Diocese of Brooklyn. Joan graduated from Saint Joseph's Catholic High School for Girls in June 1947.

Joan met her future husband, John J. Kubichka, in 1949 while on a blind date. They were married at Saint Mary's Greek Catholic Church in New York City on February 4, 1950. They were blessed with four daughters, Barbara, Janice, Karen, and Justine. Joan was preceded in death by her daughter Karen Borden who died in 2019. Joan is survived by John, and Barbara, Janice, and Justine. She was blessed with seven grandchildren, Jacqueline, Andrew, Brian, Thomas, Kevin, Marisa, and Justine Marie, and she also was blessed with six great-grandchildren (with one on the way).

In 1950, newly married Joan and John moved to and lived in Hollywood, California for their first year together. Joan returned to New York when John, a Marine, was called up for service during the Korean War. By August 1958, Joan and John and their four daughters had returned to live in Hollywood, California. Then in 1961 they purchased their first home in Rowland Heights, California where the girls attended school. Joan immersed herself in the local community, including working as a school crossing guard and getting involved with the school board. Joan also found a passion for state and local politics, becoming a registrar of voters for Los Angeles County and hosting campaign events in her home. In the late 1960's, Joan started working for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services. She retired from the County after 17 years of loyal and dedicated service.

Joan had many interests and hobbies in addition to politics. She was an avid reader who instilled in her daughters a love of reading. One of her pleasures would be visiting Las Vegas to play the slot machines, but more importantly to chat with new friends that she would meet. Joan also liked to collect many things. She would frequent secondhand stores to collect items that reminded her of her youth and find unique toys and collectibles to share with her grandchildren. Joan had a strong faith and loved sharing this with others. She attended many Bible studies and would frequently host them in her home. She was a generous supporter of many faith-based ministries and veteran charities. Joan, a strong conservative, was a proud member of the Republican Party. She was a fighter for American values and passed this heritage on to her daughters.

Joan's family grieves her loss, but they take comfort in the fact that Joan and her daughter Karen are together again.
