Neveta June Koehn

June 28, 1929 — June 16, 2020

Neveta June Koehn, age 90, passed away on June 16, 2020, in La Habra, CA, after all her children from near and far had a chance to tell her how they loved her and thank her for being such an amazing mom. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Harold Lee Koehn on January 19, 2012.

Neveta was born in Attica, KS, to Marshall and Winifred Jones and was raised in Denver, CO. She was the fourth of 5 children. In 1947 she moved to Pasadena, CA, to attend Pasadena College and became the first in her family to earn a college degree. From there she became a junior high home economics teacher in South Gate, CA, continuing to embrace life and adventure until the end.

Neveta met Harold Koehn and they married July 12, 1957. In 1963 they moved to La Mirada, CA, where they had four children. In order to stay home with her children, Neveta started a daycare service out of her home, impacting the lives of the children and families she served for years to come. This heart of service continued after her children got older and she went back into teaching, this time at senior centers in Orange County doing cooking demonstrations for senior citizens for over 25 years. Her oldest son Brad said his mom inspired him to love adventure. If there was an opportunity to do something new, Neveta said yes! That meant a mule ride into the Grand Canyon or hiking in Mammoth Lakes or water skiing in Colorado. She would often clap and shriek with joy to the delight of those around her.

Neveta and Harold poured their lives into their church homes, the Nazarene Church of La Mirada and later First Evangelical Free Church of Fullerton. They enriched the lives of friends they made at each church and served the community graciously as wedding reception coordinators and by visiting the sick. Neveta would wear a vibrant blue sweater and a strand of pearls and rock the world with her goodness. If an event or person made it onto Neveta's planning calendar, then without fail she was there to help work, love, and support.

Neveta is survived by her four children and their spouses: Brad and Jill Koehn, Mark and Sharon Koehn, Mike and Amy Koehn, and Tammy (Koehn) and David Ball; 18 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving sister Leota Wood.
