William Francis McGrath

William Francis McGrath, Jr. was born April 20, 1925 in Newton, Massachusetts to William Francis and Julia Elizabeth (King) McGrath. He passed away early Friday morning, February 19, 2010, in La Mirada, California.Bill grew up and went to school in Newton where he graduated from Newton High School. Having a desire to serve his country, Bill joined the Marine Corp at the age of 17. He went on to honorably serve for 3 years during World War II. After the war, Bill attended Babson College and earned a degree in Business. He completed his Master's in education at California State University at Los Angeles in 1960.On May 29, 1954, Bill married the love of his life, Joan Thompson, in Berkeley, California. They eventually settled in La Mirada, California where they have spent the past 45 years.Mr. McGrath taught Business and Driver's Education during his 26 year career at California High School. He also enjoyed coaching baseball and golf for several years during that time. In addition to baseball and golf, William enjoyed dining out and traveling. Above all, however, he enjoyed spending time with his dear wife, Joan.In addition to his wife, Joan, he is survived by sons, Michael J. McGrath and William F. McGrath III; daughter, Catherine A. Romero; son-in-law, James Romero; daughters-in-law, Jill McGrath and Kimberly McGrath; and 7 grandchildren, William F. McGrath IV, Kristyn McGrath, Jason Romero, Derek McGrath, Quentin McGrath, Timothy Romero, and Chloe Romero.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Bill's honor at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 25th at St. Bruno's Church, 15740 Citrustree Road, Whittier, CA 90603. Private interment will take place at a later time at Resurrection Cemetery in Montebello, California.Condolences may be sent to the family by selecting 'Sign Guestbook' at the top of the page.
