Velda Lee Nelson

Velda Lee (Yingling) Nelson passed away July 6, 2018 in Whittier, CA. She was born on June 21, 1934 in Merced, CA to Oscar and Cleo (Hunt) Yingling. Velda grew up and attended schools in Merced.

On October 28, 1994, Velda married Kenneth Nelson in Norwalk, CA. With her marriage to Ken, her family grew to add daughter, Valerie Ferrante and her husband, Rick Ferrante. She gained another son, Randy Nelson, his wife, Cory Nelson, granddaughters Sharlyn and Jessica Nelson. Ken and Velda enjoyed 23 years of marriage together.

Velda was a resident of La Mirada, CA for 50 years. After attending Cerritos College in the field of dentistry, she worked as a Registered Dental Assistant until her retirement. Velda filled her retirement days caring for her home and her family. She enjoyed getting in the car, taking road trips, and seeking out adventure, typically accompanied by her husband Ken.

Veldas interests were many and varied. She had a love of antiques, always looked forward to her Tuesday morning flower-arranging class with her dear friends, and enjoyed her swim aerobics class at the YMCA. Velda loved to cook and care for others. She had a talent for gardening as evidenced by her home garden. She had a way with making everything beautiful, and surrounding all those who came in contact with her with that beauty.

She is survived by her husband Ken, her son, David Ogle, three granddaughters Sonnet Jones, Robin Gregory, and Kelly Goodwin, and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Roselle Barnes.
