Stella Hugues

Stella Hugues passed away peacefully at her Pico Rivera home on April 12, 2023,
at the age of 92 with her family nearby. Stella lived in Pico Rivera for 72 years.
Stella was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Hugues; father, Jose Carmen
Serna; mother, Francisca Miranda; sister, Rosie Ortiz (Serna); brother, Omar Serna;
brother, Angel Serna; and sister, Vera Sandoval (Serna). Her daughter Sally
Valentino (Hugues); and son Henry Hugues.
Stella is survived by her sister, Josie Delgado; daughter, Nancy Dorame (Richard);
son, Richard Hugues (Debbie); and sons, Paul Hugues and Eddie Hugues. Her 14
grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Stella was raised in East Los Angeles where she graduated from Garfield High
School. She married Joe (Joseph) Hugues who attended her high school rival
Roosevelt High School. They married in 1950 and had six children. She raised two
of her grandchildren Ashley Mejia and Joseph Hugues as her very own.
Stella enjoyed knitting, sewing, spending time with her family, eating out at various
restaurants, and going shopping with her daughter Nancy. Stella was a very
talented cook, and her family always requested her lasagna for their birthday
dinners.
Stella was a devoted catholic who attended St. Frances Xavier in Pico Rivera with
her sister Vera regularly until the pandemic. She then began watching mass on TV
every Sunday and said the rosary every day.
The Viewing will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at White Emerson from 5 – 8
p.m.; and the Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2023, from
9:30-11:30 a.m. at St. Mariana.
Stella was loved by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and greatgreat
grandchildren. She will forever be missed!
