Robert (Bob) Shedden of La Habra Heights, CA passed away recently. Bob was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended University School, an all-boys school in nearby Shaker Heights. At US he was known for his math ability, but since the students were required to participate in sports, he played on the water polo team and was also captain of the varsity soccer team his senior year. His interest in athletics continued throughout his life. Bob was on the yearbook staff and enjoyed being stage-manager for theater production where he learned the technical aspects (sound and lighting) for high school theater and, later, community theater.
A major highlight of his life was spending the summer before he started college in the wilderness of Minnesota with an Outward Bound canoe and survival program. Bob earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, where he was a member of the Delta Phi fraternity and enjoyed playing inter-mural soccer and ice-hockey. After graduation, Bob moved to Los Angeles to take a position at Southern California Edison, where he had a successful career working in Electric System Planning, System Operations, and Power Contracts until his retirement.
Bob took pleasure in family life, being a dad to Jennifer, husband to Ann, brother to sister Taube, step-brother to Michael, and uncle to nieces, and a nephew. Throughout his life, Bob was involved in many clubs and community organizations, and he was often the treasurer. These included: SCE Shooters Ski Club: La Habra Heights Volunteer Fire Department (engineer): Flyers Cycling Club: Hillcrest Congregational Church and the Hillcrest Festival of Fine Arts: Spanish Trails Girl Scout (leader): Whittier Area Youth Soccer (coach): La Habra High School Band Boosters (treasurer}.
Bob loved bicycling locally with the Flyers Cycling Club, locally, as well as joining organized century and double-century rides that are part of the California Gold Triple Crown challenge. Downhill skiing was a life-long passion for him, and he made at least one trip to the snow every winter. Other interests included hiking with family and friends; being in the mountains and forests, away from the city, in any season; attending local live theater productions, especially those directed by his step-brother. In his last years, he still enjoyed watching televised broadcasts of hockey, Premiere League soccer, and professional cycling, especially the Tour de France.
