Rafael Rodriguez

Justo Rafael Rodriguez, known fondly as Rafael, passed away on December 22, 2023, in Whittier. He was born on March 8, 1939, in Duitama Colombia.  He was the first born of 7, three boys and 4 girls.

 

He married Maria Aiza Barragan, his loving wife of 56 years in Colombia in 1963, and came to the USA to explore a possibility of a new life.   He travelled to different states and finally chose California as home.  He then immigrated and sent for his wife Aiza to join him. 

He had completed his education through high school at the Jesuit school in Colombia, were he learned many skills, including technical training, mechanics, and music.  These skills helped him to establish himself in the USA and fulfill his American dream.   Rafael had a fulfilling career as a proud truck driver for Weber Trucking for about 40 years. His dedication and commitment to his work earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and clients.

 

He loved the outdoors and being social, his hobbies included music, dancing, camping, fishing, and going to the racetrack.  


Beyond his professional life, Rafael was a beloved father and family man, together with Aiza, they formed a beautiful family, Ralph, Angie, and Art.  His son Ralph and wife, Martha gave them two grandchildren, Nathaniel, and Kaitlynn. They all filled their lives with happiness.


The passing of Rafael leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be remembered for his warm smile, kind-heartedness, and unwavering love for his family.

In honor of Rafael's life, viewing services will be held at the White Emerson Mortuary in Whittier on January 13, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A prayer service will follow at the same location from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The final farewell will take place during graveside services at Olive Lawn Memorial Park in La Mirada on January 13th from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM.

Rafael is survived by his loving children, grandchildren, daughter in law and numerous friends and family members who adored him. He is preceded in death by his wife, Maria Aiza Barragan, father, Pedro Jose Rodriguez and mother, Angelica Carreño.

During this difficult time of loss, let us remember Rafael as the vibrant and caring individual he was. May his memory bring comfort to all those grieving, and may his spirit continue to live on in our hearts.
