Micheal Jon or "Mick" was born September 2, 1948, to Bob and Reka Boersma in Orange City, IA. He had two older brothers, Ron and Rich, and a younger sister, Linda. The family owned a farm in the town of Hospers, Iowa, and Mick had wonderful memories and stories of growing up there.
He moved to Huntington Beach, CA, just before his senior year in high school, and went on to attend and graduate from Long Beach State University with a degree in music. His primary instrument was the trombone, but he also enjoyed playing the piano, guitar, and singing.
Mick's love for God defined his life, character, and actions. Following college, he attended Talbot Seminary, in La Mirada, CA, where he earned an MDiv and PhD. He went on to serve in various local churches in Washington and California as youth pastor, senior pastor, interim pastor, and adult fellowship teacher. Most of his career was spent as a professor of practical theology at Talbot, where he enjoyed preparing students for a life of service to Christ. He co-authored 3 books with other faculty members. Mick also created an alumni ministry so he and his wife could follow up on graduates as they launched into ministry life. His office door was always open, and he genuinely cared for people. His warm and loving spirit and heart of encouragement made him a valued mentor and friend to everyone who knew him.
Mick died on November 13, 2025. He is survived by Rolane, his beloved wife of 52 years, and their family of twin daughters, sons in law, and grandchildren. They all loved him dearly and are left to grieve his passing. His children are Riva Lee (husband Will and children Mikayla, Tyler and Lynnea) and Cara Hill (husband Bryan and children Ethan and Austin). His sister, Linda Eichblatt, is his only remaining sibling.
"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His godly ones." Psalm 116:15
