Marie D. Tyler

March 21, 1915 — September 18, 2010

Marie D. Tyler was born March 21, 1915 in Toledo, Ohio to Petrus and Agneta (Schambach) de Does. She passed away at the age of 95 on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at her home in Whittier, California.Marie's Father, mother, and sibling's came from Holland to America in 1912. Marie was the first child of the family to be born in the U.S. Though born in Toledo, Ohio, her family moved to California when she was four. She lived in Los Angeles growing up and attended Raymond Avenue Elementary, Horace Mann Jr. High, and John Muir High School. She moved to Whittier in 1954. Marie loved taking her children camping when they were small. One of her favorite hobbies was tole painting. Gardening was also a favorite, and her backyard was full of beautiful flowers. Above all, Marie derived the most pleasure from chatting it up with a neighbor or friend over a cup of tea and a piece of pie -- or two. She loved going to Pechanga to put a few bucks in the slot machines, and she was pretty lucky at it too! ...AND she loved driving anywhere. One of the things Marie used to say once she stopped driving was, 'Give me a car and I'll show you what I can do.' She loved just getting in her car, which she called 'Hoopy,' and going for a ride to a friend's house or to the beach. Marie will most be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, homemaker, and friend. Her family and friends gave her so much joy, and she filled us all with laughter. Mrs. Tyler is survived by three children, James Sellers, Lenore Stanley, and John Tyler; grandchildren, Diana, Cynthia, Brooklynn, Christopher and Sarah; and one great-granddaughter, Dana Marie. She is also survived by her loving caregiver, Connie Tyler.Viewing will take place from 9 - 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at White Emerson Mortuary, 13304 E. Philadelphia St., Whittier, CA 90601, with funeral service to immediately follow. Interment will take place at 1:00 p.m. that day at Inglewood Park Cemetery in Inglewood, California.
