Manuel Souza Rios lived a life defined by hard work, generosity, laughter, and an unwavering willingness to help others. On May 26, 2026, while in Arkansas, Manuel passed away doing what he loved most—volunteering and serving others. There is comfort in knowing that his final moments reflected the way he chose to live his life: giving of himself with a kind and generous heart.

Born in Los Angeles, California, Manuel learned the value of hard work at an early age. He started working at just 10 years old on Olvera Street—a work ethic he carried with him throughout his entire life. For many years, he worked as a dedicated, dependable forklift driver for International Windows. He believed in earning an honest living, took pride in every task, and loved taking on side jobs to lend a helping hand. It wasn’t in him to sit still; even after retirement, Manuel stayed active because he truly never stopped working.

Those who knew Manuel will always remember his outside-the-box sense of humor. He loved making people laugh with his jokes and playful personality. While he thoroughly enjoyed teasing others, he didn’t always enjoy being on the receiving end of the jokes. And if he ever held a grudge, push come to shove, he would eventually forgive you—a quality that only made him more lovable. He was an adventurous early riser, creative, ambitious, and determined. Once Manuel set his mind on something, very little could stand in his way.

Manuel found immense joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved bowling, watching action movies, swimming, walking, and enjoying the outdoors. He always looked forward to visiting garage sales and swap meets, hunting for unique treasures. Christmas was especially meaningful to him; he took great pride in creating beautiful holiday light displays that brought happiness to everyone around him. He also loved camping and spending peaceful days at lakes and rivers, deeply appreciating the beauty of God’s creation.

More than anything, Manuel will be remembered for his generous spirit and his servant's heart. He gave completely without expecting anything in return. Whether helping a neighbor, volunteering his time, or offering a smile, he made a lasting impact on everyone he met.

Manuel is lovingly survived by his three daughters, one son, and five cherished grandchildren. He was a devoted father and grandfather whose love, guidance, humor, and example will continue to live on in each of them. He now joins his mother, his father, his two brothers, Bruno and Robert, and his sister, Felipa, along with other loved ones in heavenly peace.

Although our hearts are broken and his absence leaves an emptiness that can never truly be filled, we are deeply grateful for the years we shared with him. We will forever miss his laughter, his wisdom, his unmatched work ethic, and the stories he would fabricate just a little bit to make them more exciting. We find comfort in knowing that Manuel’s life was one of purpose, faith, and service.
