In Loving Memory of Manuel Estrada Gonzales
January 30, 1958 – September 6, 2026
Manuel Estrada Gonzales of Norwalk, California, entered eternal rest on September 6, 2026. He was 68.
Born January 30, 1958, on Volunteer Avenue in Norwalk, Manuel grew up in the Tri-City area. He attended St. Linus Middle School in Norwalk and St. Paul High School in Santa Fe Springs. He is the son of Peter and Mary Gonzales and brother to Teresa, Loretta, and Ben.
Manuel worked as a short-order cook, where his Love of Food came apparent with all of his quick tips for cooking, then as a machinist for Lefeil Manufacturing and Union Pacific. After retiring he became a full-time grandfather and part-time driver, always ready with stories from the road and from life.
He was one of the most mentally strong people his family knew. Pressure did not move him; he thrived in it and gave everything he had. He provided for his family to the end. With parents who served as interim foster parents, family was always at the center of his heart.
Manuel was a tinkerer who loved to add, fix, and improve things. His hands were never idle—whether at the machine shop, preparing his famous garlic-stuffed lamb roast, or smoking a brisket. He loved having people around the table.
In later years he grew an avocado tree, traveled with his family, restored pedal cars, and poured care into Buttercup, his beloved 1961 Ford Falcon—the same kind of car his family had when he was growing up.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Gonzales; his children, Manuel Gonzales Jr., Marcus Gonzales, Michael Gonzales, Steven Valenzuela and Grandson Jace Gonzales.
Manuel’s strength, generosity, and quiet skill with his hands will be missed by everyone who sat at his table, rode in his car, or simply knew they could count on him.
May he rest in peace.
