Judith Ann Spiteri

August 9, 1934 — February 9, 2024

Judith Ann Spiteri, lovingly known as Judy, passed away unexpectedly on February 9th, 2024, in Whittier, California. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and so much more to those who were blessed enough to know her.

She was born in Detroit Michigan on August 9th, 1934, to Herbert Duhart and Blanche Apt. Judy was the second of three children. She grew up in Detroit where she met a handsome man from Malta, Ronnie “Ron” Spiteri, whom she married on January 28th, 1958, in Detroit. In 1958, Judy and Ron moved to California where they started a family of their own. They had a knack for choosing houses that the community would later tear down to build a school and a shopping center. The last house they moved to was in Pico Rivera in 1989. This is where she remained until her passing.

For most of her career, Judy was an Executive Secretary for the Los Angeles Unified School District. She worked there until retirement. Her spare time was spent playing her piano, writing letters to friends and family, and reading books, especially Stephen King and Dean Koontz. She loved to watch Jeopardy and soap operas. Most of the time, she sat at her computer surfing the internet to research and stay up to date on everything going on in the world. Judy was always ready to write a letter to Congress and other government and state officials to voice her opinions and concerns. She genuinely cared about what was happening. She also collected gargoyles, dragons, and castles, and had a love for cats. She liked to build puzzles, especially 3-D castles, but once she had a few cats, that hobby was forcibly stopped, for obvious reasons.

Her home was always open to family and friends. Over the course of the years, Joe, Rosie, Marie, Mark, Christa, and Jade all lived with her. She loved sharing her home with them all, and their extra time together was cherished.

Judy was a devoted Catholic. When she could no longer drive, she attended her Sunday Mass online and would sometimes ask her daughter, Marie, or granddaughter, Christa to join her in the Rosary Prayer, which they always obliged. In her final years, Judy was cared for by her daughter Marie, son Joe, and granddaughter Christa, until her final stay in the hospital.

Judy was predeceased by her husband, Ron, her sisters Yvonne and Norma, her daughter Rosie, and her grandson Georgie.

Judy is survived by her son Joe; daughters Marie and Laurie; grandchildren Jimmy, Christa, Joey, Ryan, Jessie, Katie, Tristan, Emily, Ashaya, Theron, Clayton, Colton, and Gideon; and great-grandchildren Jade, Isaiah, Kiele, Lily, Joseph, Levi, and a few more she never had the chance to meet.

Judy led a life well lived with a strong sense of family and a heart of gold. She will forever live on in our hearts and our memories. She now walks side-by-side with the Lord and is with her loved ones who met her at the gates of Heaven on the evening of February 9th, 2024.
