Jose Humberto Zazueta

November 2, 1938 — January 26, 2019

Jose Humberto Zazueta was born November 2, 1938, in Bacobampo, Sonora, Mexico, to Jesus and Margarita (Reyes) Zazueta. He passed away on January 26, 2019, in Whittier, California, at the age of 80.

Jose grew up and went to school in Mexico, but later immigrated to the United States as a young man. It was in Los Angeles that he met the love of his life, Celia Hernandez. They were married in Los Angeles, California, on April 6, 1977, and they were blessed with four children: Jaime, Humberto, Jr., Walberto, and Yanira.

Family was very important to Jose. He found great joy in spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, as well as his very large extended family. He was a very happy man and lit up the room with his presence. Always very aware of his appearance, Jose liked to make a statement. He was a handsome man and liked to look sharp in very bold colors. His signature fedora would always top off his look.

Music and dancing were among Joses greatest passions. He would frequently make music out of whatever was at hand, and it was not uncommon for him to break out in dance at any moment. Such was his love for music and dancing, that he was given the nickname, Tango, at a young age. He especially enjoyed listening to ballads of Javier Solis and Mike Laure, and he enjoyed dancing to Cumbia, Merengue and Mambo.

Jose is survived by his wife, Celia; children, Jaime (Socorro) Castaneda, Humberto Zazueta, Walberto Zazueta, and Yanira (Alejandro Reynoso) Zazueta; grandchildren, Anthony, Christine, Nathaniel, Valentino, Zion, Trinity, Rocky, Zsa Zsa, Solrae, Adriel, and Arinay; and siblings, Armando, Adela, Guadalupe, Jorge, Rene, Jilberto, Jildardo, Eustolia, and Graciela.

A vigil will take place at 7pm on Friday, February 8, 2019, at White Emerson Mortuary, 13304 Philadelphia St., Whittier, California. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am the following morning, Saturday, February 9, 2019, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7215 Newlin Ave., also in Whittier.
