Janice Elois Hodge

April 26, 1953 — May 18, 2018

The life journey of Janice Elois Johnson began on April 26, 1953 in Texarkana, Arkansas. As the middle child of three, Janice was beloved by her parents, Rheuben and Vera Lee Johnson.

In 1953 Janice and her family moved to Los Angeles, California seeking a better life. Janice passed away on Friday, May 18th at St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, California, after a year-long battle with her illness. It is with immense sadness that we say goodbye to our mother, duchess and best friend. Yet, it is with everlasting joy that we thank God for blessing us with her love and time on Earth.

Janice attended and graduated from John C. Fremont High School in 1971.

Early into adulthood, Janice met and fell in love with Tommie Hodge, who she married June 8, 1972. Together, they had two children: Thomas Dushawn Hodge and Naima Cubaneice (Hodge) Sanchez. Janice was a devoted wife, partner and mother.

Janices strong work ethic helped support her children and husband, years beyond their marriage. Her devotion to her family was evident and admired by all. The lifelong relationships she formed were a testament to her character, including a maternal relationship with Maria Membreno and her son, Danny. She adored her grandchildren, and her grandchildren adored their duchess. She forever brought laughter into their lives.

Janice is survived by her father, Rhueben Johnson; two brothers, Rheuben Johnson and Gregory Johnson; her two children, Thomas Hodge and Naima Sanchez; son-in-law, Rudy and daughter-in-law, Benita; bonus daughter, Maria; her grandchildren, Rudy, Shawnice, Danny, Javier, Pinky, Denise, Yasmine, Christian, and Mason; great-grandchild, Andrew; friend and life partner of 51 years, Tommie; and a host of family and friends.

Viewing will take place from 5-8pm on Friday, June 1, 2018, at White Emerson Mortuary, 13304 Philadelphia St., Whittier, California. The funeral will begin at 11am the next morning, Saturday, June 2, 2018, also at White Emerson Mortuary. Interment will immediately follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3888 Workman Mill Road, Whittier, California.
