Eleanor Marie (Windsor) Matyus,
Entered a robust life on December 28, 1932, and was risen to Heaven on April 12, 2024.
Eleanor Marie Windsor Matyus was a woman of many nicknames Babka, Busho, Pookie, and Windy, Eleanor’s high school friends favorite because she would blow in from and then blow out to Chicago so often. She was born on December 28, 1932, in Chicago, IL. and peacefully passed away on April 12, 2024, in Fullerton, CA with family on all sides of her being.
Eleanor was born in the midst of the Great Depression, but deep faith and family values instilled in her early childhood would be her prelude to being the loved person she was and always will be in our hearts.
Eleanor graduated from Joliet Township High School in 1950 where as a teen, had many friends that would visit her as she scooped ice cream, at the local ice cream parlor, Prince Castle. After a short stint and hard work at a vocational college, Eleanor landed her first office position and later through determination and impeccable work ethic saw her promoted to Executive Secretary, working for the CEO’S Maloney, Reagan, and Schmitt, large newspaper representatives on Michigan Avenue in Chicago, IL.
Eleanor found love and was married in Chicago, IL. Later Eleanor would find her way to Southern California where she gave birth to her Son Michael and Daughter Johanna and would be blessed again by God by introducing us to our now extended family, the Stef family, who became our staples of growing old together. Our lives in Southern California though were short lived and broken. Eleanor and two young children would return to Joliet, IL. where they would live for 3 summers with their beloved Uncle Marty. We came back to Southern California to stay, where Eleanor through dedication and never quit attitude landed a position as office manager with JC PENNY and carried an employee number of #1, being the first to be hired to the Drapery Dry Cleaning Department.
Eleanor, as a single mom, brought love home every day and we never went without. She was loved by everyone she touched and knew. The warmth and personality of her presence kept you coming back for more and you were always welcome. She shared her wisdom and knowledge freely and lived in the faith of the Catholic church and the strong presence of the holy trinity. She cherished the simple moments, family togetherness and traditions as simple as watching TV or going to the drive-in movies together or outings, going camping at Lake Nacimiento, Mother’s Day at the horse track, always homemade holiday meals, (Mom was quite the chef!!) so scrumptious our stomachs sang for joy, BBQ’s, many trips to the beach in the summer and throughout the year. Trips to Vegas, bowling, Palm Springs, pool time and traveling or cruising the Caribbean or Pacific, Eleanor, our mom, just loved to have family around.
Eleanor, our mom, lived to the wonderful astounding age of 91, where her family purpose was to see her family grow, as in 3’s, as in the holy trinity. Family growth brought Eleanor, our mom, pure joy, laughter and zest of life. Eleanor is survived by her son Michael Matyus and daughter Johanna Bradshaw where her legacy and example will live on in her son and daughter, her 3 grandchildren, Martin (Marty) Matyus, Brittany Matyus and Nicolette (Nikki) Matyus and last but not least, 3 great grandchildren Ellie (short for Eleanor) Jo, Romy Danielle, and Emelia Rose Fukui.
