Obituary for Doris A. Perea

On September 4, 2025, Doris A. Perea passed away from this world at the age of 90. Doris was born on March 29, 1935, in Hastings, Colorado, to Cosme and Ernestina Rios, who immigrated from Mexico in search of a better life. She spent the last 58 years of her life in Pico Rivera, CA.

Doris grew up alongside her siblings, Cosme Jr., Mary, Manuel, and Alfred. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School and graduated from Bishop Conaty High, where her strong Catholic faith took root and remained a guiding light throughout her life.

Doris was married to her loving husband, Alex Perea, for 46 years. Together, they built a life centered on faith and family, raised six children, and created a home filled with love, warmth, and cherished memories.

Doris worked as an office clerk and retired from the LA County Health Center in Pico Rivera. After retirement, she returned to work for a few years at the Intercommunity Child Guidance Center in Whittier, where her warmth and compassion touched many lives. Throughout her life, Doris dedicated her time to her family and their activities.

She was an active member of St. Hilary Catholic Church, where she volunteered at the Catechism office and spent countless hours ministering to the elderly and sick, both in convalescent homes and at their residences. Her commitment to her church was evident through her involvement in the Divine Mercy and Early Morning Praisers groups. Additionally, she served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Holy Eucharist and a Lector during Mass.

She is survived by Elizabeth Perea, Stephan Perea (Reyna), Rebecca Cerda (Neftalí), Susan DeMont (David), Kathleen Perea, and Michael Perea (Gina). She had 12 grandchildren: Ryan, Matthew (Leigh), Jessica (Juan Antonio), Melissa (José), Michael Jr. (Marlene), Jacob (Claudia), Gregory (Elizabeth), Joshua (Arlene), Joseph, Jennifer (Eduardo), Lauren, and Andrew. Additionally, she had 10 great-grandchildren: John Paul, Matteo, Anthony, Gianna, Valerie, Michael III, Noah, Aiden, Julianna, and Isabella. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Sarah Rios, along with many nieces and nephews. Doris also leaves behind numerous cherished friends.

A Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held at St. Hilary Catholic Church in Pico Rivera. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the church in her honor, continuing her legacy of giving and love.
