Donald Mervin Olsen (Don) passed away peacefully in his sleep at 95 years old on June 28, 2021 in Palmdale, CA. Don was born on October 23, 1925 to Audrey M. Tolman and Elmer C. Olsen in Pocatello, ID. He grew up loving fishing in beautiful Idaho Falls with his dad and brothers. As a young man, Don honorably served in the Army Air Corps in WWII as a Tail Gunner on the B-17. He later attended college at Idaho State University, where he participated in boxing and enjoyed going to church swing dances.
On November 26, 1949, Don married his sweetheart, Elizabeth Summers, in Las Vegas. The couple settled in Whittier, CA and had their beloved daughter, Geraldine, in 1951. Don spent the majority of his career in the Aviation Industry handling material control for companies throughout Los Angeles County. As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he enjoyed reading the Book of Mormon on his work breaks. Hobbies in his later life included wood-carving, reading novels, playing cards, and above all, spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth, grandson Matthew, brothers Clayton, Ralph, Gordon, and Glen, and sisters LaRue "Joan" and Carol. He is survived by his daughter Geraldine Jones, sisters Elaine Stec and Sharon Scott, 3 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Don will be buried at Riverside National Cemetery.
