Charles F. Hutson

June 4, 1928 — June 16, 2022

Charles F. Huston, "Charlie," was born on June 4, 1928 in San Diego, CA to Frederick and Amy Hutson. At the age of four, in 1932, his family moved to Whittier where he attended grade school then Whittier High School. At Whittier High Charles was active in ASB and drama club. He graduated in 1946. After graduation, Charles served in the US Army in Germany. He was a Private First Class with an Honorable Release at the end of the war.
On July 11, 1953, Charles married Kathleen Florence Letcher in Orange County; they were married for almost 47 years before her passing in 2000. Charles worked as a letter carrier with the US Postal Service from 1950 until he retired 39 years later in 1989. Over 75 people attended his retirement party.
When Charles was not working, you could find him gardening, a hobby he loved; he was especially proud of his rose garden. Dancing: fast, slow, square, you name it, he LOVED to dance! He enjoyed camping and traveling with his family which included going to his timeshare in Cancun, many summer trips to Carpinteria State Beach, Mission Bay in San Diego, and Doheny State Park in Dana Point. In 1976 his camping trip included a 6-week drive with his wife, 4 kids and mother-in-law across the United States, including a stop in Nova Scotia, all in our Ford Country Squire station wagon pulling our Aljo trailer, staying in the KOA campgrounds along the way. Charles was a long-standing member of East Whittier United Methodist Church where he was very active. He was a major participant in setting up for all events going on at the church and took pride in every Sunday making sure the coffee kept flowing. He always looked forward to getting together with his Post Office Group of friends for breakfast on a weekly basis. He danced for many years with a square dance club and would sometimes perform at different events.

Charles is survived by four daughters, Jackie, Jann, Jill and Julie. Eleven Grandchildren; Nick, Theresa, Courtney, Kelly, Maggie, Jenna, Alden, Muki, Emmy, Mitch and Max. Nine Great-Grandchildren. And his loving partner of 20 years, Shirley.
He had so much charisma everyone loved him. Charlie will be missed.
