Carmen Antoinette LaBarbera Sweeney passed away on December 27, 2025, after a courageous and determined battle with pancreatic cancer.
Carmen was born on October 3, 1950, in Maywood, California, and was raised in Pico Rivera. She spent most of her life in Whittier, California, where she raised her family and proudly dedicated 45 years of service as a devoted employee of Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital. Carmen carried a strong sense of pride in her Italian heritage, which shaped her values, traditions, and deep devotion to family.
Carmen was married 58 years to the love of her life, Mike. Together they built a life rooted in love, loyalty, and unwavering support. Carmen found joy in the moments she shared with her family, whether gathered together at home or making memories along the way. She loved trips to the casino and cheering on all sports. Carmen especially loved trips to Lake Havasu and being a dedicated presence of the racing community at Ventura Raceway.
She was known for her strong-willed and stubborn nature, balanced by a fiercely supportive heart. Carmen left a lasting impression on everyone she met through her strength, presence, and love for those closest to her.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Mike; her children, Michelle and Michael; her son-in-law, Doug; her grandchildren, Chris, Courtney, Chloe, Cory, Vanessa, Josh, and Samantha; her cherished great-grandchildren, Ava, Charlotte, Carson, and Cooper; her brother, Tony, and sister-in-law, Janet; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Carmen will always be remembered for the love she gave and the strength she showed.
