Betty Macy

Betty Henshaw Macy passed away on June 25, 2022 in Whittier, California at the age of 95. She was born on March 16, 1927 in Southern California and graduated from Montebello High School and the University of Redlands.

After graduating from Redlands, Betty joined the Montebello Unified School District as a teacher at Bella Vista Elementary School. It was at Bella Vista she met Jack Macy and they married in the summer of 1950. The couple started their life together in Whittier and welcomed three sons along the way. Betty stopped teaching to focus on raising her sons and supporting her husband in his career in education. Upon Jack's death in 1970, Betty returned to Montebello Unified to teach and then became a librarian, sharing her love of books with children and colleagues.

Betty loved to travel and travelled throughout the United States and Europe. She was a member of East Whittier Presbyterian Church for over 70 years. Betty loved spending time with family and friends, always enjoying good food, music, and laughter.

Betty is survived by her sons Tim (Karen) Macy, Jeff (Betsy) Macy, and Todd (Terri) Macy; grandchildren Alexandra (Greg) Wright, Christina Macy, Jacqueline Macy, and Kelsey Macy; great-grandchildren Logan and Grant Wright; and sister Jean Henshaw Hughes.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 4pm on Thursday August 4, 2022 at East Whittier Presbyterian Church.
