Bertha Antonia Lopez

Bertha Lopez, a devoted and beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away suddenly on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the age of 84. Born in Los Angeles to Salvador and Concepcion Canales, Bertha was the eldest of five children and a protective older sister to Cecilia, Charles, Vincent, and Anthony.

Bertha's early years were shaped by her education at Assumption Catholic School and her graduation from Bishop Conaty High School in 1958. After attending East Los Angeles College and working for the Catholic Youth Organization, she embarked on a transformative six-week tour of Europe. Following her return, a rekindled friendship with high school friend Frank Lopez led to their marriage in February 1964. They built a beautiful life together, raising four children—Christopher, Kevin, Kenneth, and Christine.

Bertha’s career as a dedicated executive secretary and later a procurement specialist at Northrop Grumman was a source of great pride, especially her work on the B-2 Bomber Program. She retired in 2001 to travel with her husband and, soon after, embraced her favorite role as a grandmother. Her seven grandchildren—Riley, Ian, Sydney, Thomas, Maya, Joseph, and Nathan—became the center of her world. A devout Catholic, Bertha was also an active member of St. Bruno’s parish for over 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Francisco Lopez, her parents, and her brothers Charles and Vincent. She will be profoundly missed by her children: Christopher (Connie), Kevin (Cami), Kenneth (Shannon), and Christine (Alan); her grandchildren; and her siblings: Cecilia (Art) and Anthony (Barbara), along with many other family members and friends.
