Barbara Louise Lockhart age 90 of Whittier California, passed away in the early morning hours on Thursday, October 22, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Barbara was born on September 4,1936 in Hot Springs, South Dakota. Her family moved to

Grants Pass, Oregon, where she grew up and eventually met the love of her life, James Lockhart; they married in July of 1954. They soon relocated to Southern California and settled in Whittier, California in 1964. Barbara enjoyed the time she spent working for the City of Whittier at the Senior Center for many years. She loved Disneyland, taking cruises with friends, and family vacations to Oregon, especially Grants Pass and Sunriver.

Barbara devoted her life to her family and the comforts of home. Some of her greatest joys included reading and celebrating holidays, especially Christmas. She was an amazing cook and gifted baker. Her pies, breads, and cookies were legendary. She also loved to knit and crochet. Barbara and Jim took great pride in their bike riding adventures along the Whittier Greenway Trail into their early eighties!

Above all, Barbara will be remembered for her quick wit, charm, and love of life. She brought laughter, wisdom, and strength to those fortunate enough to have known her, leaving behind wonderful memories that will be treasured for generations.

Barbara was affectionately known to everyone as “Mooey,” a nickname lovingly given to her by her first granddaughter.

She is survived by the greatest love of her life, her husband of seventy two years, James Lockhart; her daughters Janice Kuri, Donna Hartig, and Donna’s husband Joel Hartig; her grandchildren, Leslie Kuri, Patrick Kuri, and Raymond Hartig; and her great- grandchildren Crosby Kuri Hernandez, Mary Hernandez and Jane Hernandez. She is also survived by her brother Lawrence Beck.

Barbara was preceded in death by her daughter, Joyce Barton.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
