Anna Marie De La Torre

December 28, 1937 — July 13, 2023

Anna Marie De La Torre, 85, passed away peacefully in her sleep in Whittier, California on July 23, 2023.
The daughter of Guillermo and Concepción De La Torre, Anna Marie was born on December 28, 1937 in
Los Angeles, California. She was one of 5 sisters and 3 brothers. Anna Marie grew up in California, living most
of her childhood in Pico Rivera. She graduated from Sacred Heart of Mary High School, Los Angeles, California,
where she made many lasting and cherished friendships. Anna Marie worked many different jobs throughout her
career. Though she retired, as an executive secretary for the County of Los Angeles, she only allowed herself but a
moment to rest. Her final place of employment was as a receptionist at Coco’s, a job she truly appreciated, as it
gave her a chance to do what she loved, greeting and enjoying the company of others.
Anna Marie also enjoyed organizing and working on various church activities. One activity that she held dear
was preparing weekly meals for the “Soup Hour” at St. Matthias Episcopal Church. Anna Marie, and her sister
Lupe, also diligently worked for many years on decorating St. Francis for the upcoming Seasons of Christmas
and Easter. Anna Marie always believed that it was essential to give to those who needed you and/or had given
you support. Time, acts of kindness, and monetary gifts occurred routinely, for all who sought assistance.

Anna Marie was happiest when she was busy. She always had a positive “can do” attitude. She loved to share
time, laughter and conversation with all, via the phone, at her weekly breakfast gatherings, or simply when sitting
around her dining room table. Anna Marie was an accomplished “chef,” who loved to cook and prepare
elaborate 3-course meals for family, friends, and co-workers. Baking was a favorite pastime. Though she would
gladly share her favorite dishes, she was always up for trying new recipes. Anyone who had a chance to sample
her cooking knew that the food had been prepared by a master!

Finally, becoming a member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West was a highlight for Anna Marie. Participating
in parlor meetings, fund raisers, and ceremonies was essential.
Anna Marie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Gonzalo De La Torre, Manuel De La Torre, and
Marcus De La Torre; and sisters Alice Miller, Connie King, Guadalupe De La Torre, and Josefina De La Torre.
